3U nanosatellite will provide daily coverage of Colombian territory

FACSAT-1 is a 3U nanosatellite for the Fuerza Aérea Colombian (FAC) to demonstrate the technological capabilities to build and operate a nanosatellite. FACSAT-1 satellite, first of the Colombian Air Force, was launched late November, 2018.

The satellite carries an imager with a resolution of 30 meters per pixel to provide daily coverage of Colombian territory. Due to high accuracy, the images obtained by FACSAT can be used for urban development, land restoration, illegal crop substitution, and natural disaster and fire response.

GomSpace provides the bus for FACSAT-1.

FACSAT-1 will in 2019 be followed by FACSAT-2 which is a 6U Nanosatellite. GomSpace also provides the bus for FACSAT-2, and it will carry an imager with a resolution of 5 meters allowing it to be used for more specialised applications such as cartography and topography.

"This new contract with the Colombian Air Force shows the value GomSpace is providing to customers seeking to gain technological competence while building their own space capacity. We are very pleased to have the Colombian Air Force as a returning customer".
